To dispose of small items like receipts showing your bank card details when you don't have a shredder, simply keep a container of water to pop them in, leave them to dissolve thoroughly then flush them away.
The first solution is fine - apart from flushing them away. That's just not eco friendly. Why not use them in compost instead? When they've been soaked for a good while, and the ink's faded, use them to line planters or pots and it helps keep moisture in the plant and they also decompose. I know it's not ideal for every day, but it's a nicer way to dispose of them.
If your lazy like me then just buy a shredder!! Most of these tips seem like wayyyyy too much hard work for me!! If you do buy a shredder though make sure its a cross cut one. You can pick them up dirt cheap in places like Asda, Wilkinsons, Argos, etc.
Leave to soak in washing up bowl covered in water over night or during the day whilst out at work. Then tear apart in water and grab into a clump, squeezing water out. They should dry into a cement like ball unable to be separated. You could always get your kids to this job as its squelshy and water is involved!!
I like that, but since some receits have a fine coating of lamination on the, its a good idea to use a permanent marker on any numbers or id information that may not dissolve.
Also I cut through the numbers then fold the papper and cut diagonally, snipping into the numbers in odd configuration when I'm disposing of credit cards.
A small simple shredder is always convenient and hassle-free. You can use it for receipts and any other documentation that has personal information on it.
I rip the account number into three parts. I wet one part with water until it shreds, I crumple one into a tiny ball, and I throw the third one into a different garbage bag than the first two.
My son was using hair straighteners & he ran the straightners down my supermarket receipt which caused it to blacken completely deleting all the details! maybe not the best use of hair Straighteners!!!
Not the best or easiest solution, but me and my friends have a get-together now and again and burn them outside (safely)
Sounds stupid I know, but it's a lot of fun XD
