FORGET MATCHING! I know it sounds crazy but when something is just out of the ordinary in your outfit it spices things up.
ex: wear a brown headband, brown pants and shoes. brown and pink striped shirt and Hot pink belt with bright earrings or necklace (jewelry doesn't need to match!) It's fun.
If you've got a sewing machine start playing around with the embrodery attachments. You can do some really beautful and funky things to the cuffs and button plackets on a plain white or denim taylored shirt with a few colors of thread.
Also, try using fabric paint to draw or splatter an original design on an old cardican or blazer.
Its also fun to make your own tote bags and scarfs with upolstry fabric.
Can you use a sewing machine and have you got one? It's amazing what you can do with all your old stuff to bring it up to date. NEVER throw anything out like jewellry ,ribbons, fake flowers buttons etc,you can string bracelets or brooches along ribbon to make a necklace . Stick unusual buttons etc onto a bag.Save old bits of lace to sew onto necklines and cuffs.Look in fashoin magazines to give you ideas, metal belts can double up as a necklace, if friends offer you cast offs ,never refuse there might be something you can re-model.You getting the idea? Get your friends to help you and maybe swap things too (very cheap)
Use ribbons from your old packaging, I agree, dont throw any thing away, you never know when its going to come in handy. Or if you have a budget of about £5, Primark is the place to go. You will get all your accersories for that! Its amazing!
Almost instant solution is to swap buttons. Buy vintage or unusual buttons and swap them on your cardis, jackets etc. Takes the budget range of clothing to a new level and you dont have to be wonderful with the sewing machine
