Like you I have a young child, though I'm not on my own, thankfully. The best thing to keep me off wine etc every night (and believe me I really could turn to the drink after some of the things we've been through) is the thought that if my son needed to get to a doctor or hospital in the night, as an emergency, how could I live with myself if I couldn't get him there because I was over the limit or unfit to drive? A sobering thought, hope it helps!

How to stop drinking wine every night

Trade your passion for wine with a passion for fancy tea! It is just as nice to entertain with minus the alcohol. There are so many varieties, and the loose leaf can be fun to steep! I have probably 12 different types at home and every night I drink around 4 cups. You can get creative and make them iced, add honey, fresh lemon, etc. You'll even look like a good hostess. Plus it's totally healthy.

Don't keep any wine at home and fill up your evenings with alternative activities, such as dance classes, swimming, seeing friends in a non pub-related atmosphere, going to see a play, the cinema and so on.

I really appreciate the advice but forgot to mention I`m a single mum so sit in EVERY night, and if friends come around invariably we`ll end up drinking! Any other ideas...pleease!

Try substituing wine with pomerganite juice. Mix it with seltzer and it will feel like a cocktail. Its good for your heart and you'll be alert in case of an emergancy, but it doesn't have caffine so it won't keep you up all night.

Just don't buy it and have it in the house! Out of sight, out of mind! You can't drink it if you don't have it! You ge the point...

If you feel you are drinking every night and can't stop then you may well have an alcohol problem. Sounds harsh, I know, but alcohol dependency can arise from a glass a night. If you can't go a week without drinking then contact your local AA.

Try watering it down, slowly. Say have a glass of wine with a drop of water, then half wine half water, then water and a drop of wine, then water, if you dont like the sound of water, try lemonade. Now when I think I want a glass of red wine, I use cranberry juice, looks and almost tastes the same but no hard effects!

You really just have to try and be harsher with yourself. You just can't down wine every single night. I love wine and I have two toddlers. I get so tired from them that sometimes I just don't want a glass cause I know that I will get a headache and end up feeling even more drained.And somehow wine seems to just taste better when you've gone a few days without it then go back for a weekend glass or two. Just designate wine nights, like Friday and Saturday night. If your friends come over any other time just say "Listen, I really need to take it easy on the wine, I've got my kid here and need to be more responsible if something happens" then have some tea instead. I'm BIG on calming teas like Tension Tamer and Chamomile, as well. Good luck!
