Use foot cream! I usually have really chapped, dry and cracking hands, but I've found that Scholl Cracked Heel Repair cream really works on smoothing them out! It's very thick and creamy so it's good to use it at night or at least once a day. It really helped. The backs of my hands also looked younger and my usually flaky and crappy palms, fingers and cuticles look and feel almost normal now!
Your body will continually heal your dry skin, so you just need to prevent new skin from drying out:
Always wear windproof gloves outdoors in cold dry weather.
Always use sunblock in summer.
Wash your hands in lukewarm rather than cold or hot water.
Drink at least a litre of non-alcoholic fluids every day.
Apply hand cream or moisturiser in the morning, after every shower and every time you wash your hands.
Unless you have an allergy, there's no need to spend a fortune on expensive products. E45 will do the job, though there are plenty of options. Find one you like and keep a travel-sized pack with you at all times.
when you go to bed, smother your hands with vaseline, put on COTTON gloves and leave til morning. you'll wake p with super smooth hands and no more jagged cuticles.
I use almond oil to soften my hands. It does wonders for your nails by preventing them from splitting and cracking. Just apply a small drop and rub in well at night and after any contact with water containing detergent. Its very inexpensive and available from loads of chemists.
Before you go to bed put some hand cream on...i have some lush stuff from crabtree and evelyne (who had a sale when i was getting a birthday present) and then put gloves on in the morning they will be silky soft
Nivea hand cream is great for stopping dry hands. Apply before you go to bed and they'll be silky soft. This is also good if you have spots on your chest. Just rub a dab of it on your chest.
when i was in school my home economics teacher showed me this simple way to have baby soft hands!
simply put some sugar (the kind you put in tea!) in one hand and put a small drop of cooking oil in with the sugar. start rubbing your hands together (over a sink preferably) making sure you rub every nook and cranny on your hands. then run some warm water (watch you dont burn your self but it has to be hot so you get the oil off!) and run your hands under it. dry off and WALLAAAH soft hands woo!
I have tried this before HONEY is the solution for this problem what you do is you put honey all over your hands which is a bit messy but you will regered it, and just massage your hands together untill the honey starts to be really sticky that you can wax the hair and the dead skin off which you have to do anyways and when you finish taking of the dead skin, rinse through with warm water, leaving your hands So soft!!!! like babies skin (even better) Its the best solution instead of buying and spending money on products that sometimes never cure your hands!!
In an old romance novel that was written in the late 1800's, I read that after a hard-day's-work, the ladies would slather lard on their hands and wear soft linen gloves to bed. While I could never use lard, I have tried this with petrolium jelly and was quite satisfied with the results!
If you have time, coat your hands with very thick lotion or vaseline then wear a pair of old knit gloves for about 1/2 an hour.
That scrub is wonderful, though. It works on all parts of your body--just mix a bit in a little dish and scrub in the shower.
Don't throw away your used coffee grounds. Massage them gently all over your hands before rinsing off with warm water. Your hands will be lovely and soft.
bath and body works has a whole hand healing colection for like not so much money. the best hand lotion is one called 'look ma new hands' by bath and body works
when you are working around the house, put E45 on thickly then put on "disposable" style gloves. the warmth from your hands really helps to absorb the cream.
I make an oil with a few drops of Geranium Essentiol oil in an Apricot oil base, and rub this on my nails and hands every night. 1 month after stopping biting my nails they are really long and strong, and my skin is really soft.
