Beg, borrow, or buy a clothes rail (lots of mail order companies do them and some collapse to go under the bed when not needed). Hang all your clothes up in groups - THEN de-clutter. It's much easier than searching through piles on the bed or floor!

How to really clear out your closet

Any smart, fashionable girl know when an article of clothing just doesn't make her feel and look great. The minute this happens, get rid of it...and don't look back.

Keep a bag or box in your closet marked for charity. Whenever you run into a piece of clothing that doesn't fit quite right or you decide you just don't like anymore, put it in the bag (and leave it there!). When the bag is full, take it to a donation center and then start over. Keep this bag in your closet all the time. You'll be doing something good for others, yourself, and your closet.

This also helps: If you are unsure of whether or not to throw something out, hang it back up in the closet backwards, with the hanger pointing towards you. Check back in 6 months - if the hanger is still backwards, you haven't worn it...and therefore don't need it!

Don't forget to get rid of things that are just plain worn out. It's hard to get rid of something you've worn so much, but I always try to look at the thing objectively and I ask myself, "If I saw this at the thrift store for , would I buy it?" If the answer is no, it should go in the trash.

your closet should reflect your lifestyle. Divide it up like a pie chart No use having 50% party clothes when you only go out once a year! If you work monday - friday the majority of your closet should house work clothes. Clothes for the evenings that 5 evenings for a couple of hours. Some going out in the evening clothes and then your weekend clothes. If you organise your closet to reflect your life you will never be in a situation where you have nothing to wear!

Have a clothes swap party with your friends, that way you know your unwanted stuff is going to a good home & you end up with some new (to you!) stuff - think of it as recycling & socialising at the same time..

First, take every single thing out, and put it all in piles of similar stuff – only then decide what to chuck. It’s easier to be ruthless if you can see that you already own twelve pairs of black trousers.

Get somone else to help-my sister and/or daughter are great-they have no emotional tie with my clothes and have no hesitation if it's past its sell by date, looks awfull-I'm sure you get the picture-I have space in my small wardrobe and the charity shop benefits

If you're having trouble getting rid of something because it cost a lot but it really doesn't look good/isn't in style anymore, think about the additional costs of keeping it around without using it - that item is costing you in closet space and in mental health. I know I always feel guilty about the expensive stuff I see every day but don't wear. Once I make the decision to get rid of it, I feel a lot better, especially if it's going to a good cause or I'm getting a little money for it! If you're just not going to wear it, it doesn't matter how much it cost - it's just taking up precious space.

First go through the stuff that doesn't fit and put it in one pile. then go through the stuff you haven't worn in a while and put it in another pile. then take the piles and donate them. Ihope i helped!

Make sure what you have in your wardrobe will go with at least 5 different items. That way it earns its wardrobe space

empty your wardrobe, then if you haven't wore something in the last six months, get rid of it. Maybe passing it on to your local charity shop

Remember what you have worn in the six months. Stick a small paper dot (available in stationers) on your clothes. Put the date you do this on the door. Remove the dot when wearing a garment. Remove all the things still with a dot on after the six months, as you have not worn them. Make space for lots of lovely new things.

Don't EVER do it. Just buy a bigger closet.

I cleared out my wardrobe when I was really angry - which made me ruthless. 1. Anything that was too short 2. Anything that really didn't suit me - colours and styles. 3. Anything that was too damaged, worn, stained etc to repair. 4. Anything that was too small 5. Shoes that I won't wear (too high, tight, not my style). 6. Old underwear, tights and socks. 7. Anything in a fabric I don't like. Of this "Get Rid" pile, I sold some on Ebay, gave the good-but-not-brilliant stuff to a charity shop and threw away the rest. Of the remainder, I immediately repaired, ironed, polished everything, and packed away my winter clothes. My resulting summer wardrobe was concise, but it all fitted, worked and suited me. I've borne this is mind as I have bought new clothes since, and though I wouldn't say I have a capsule wardrobe, I have a much smaller, harder working one.

I have a rule of 9's. If you have nine anything, 10th one. Try on anything you haven't worn in a few months so you can decide if you'll ever wear it. Then, photograph your clothes. Put things together the way they package those doll outfits, blouse skirt, best, pumps, bag and take a picture of it. Tape the photos to the inside of your closet door. It will help you rotate pieces so you'll seem to have more clothes.

If you don't look good in something, or it doesn't fit anymore, get rid of it. BUT, if you do still look good in something, store it away. It will always come back in fashion.

I always make myself get rid of two items for every one new one I bring home. It makes it seem like you are getting a reward everytime you get rid of something you dont wear anymore.

There's a great company called www.wardrobeeditors.com which has 2 women who come to your house and spend 4 hours really sorting out your wardrobe and those unflattering clothes and makes it so easy!

If yo haven't worn it for one year you never will. GET RID. Your lace hot pants may suit someone else so give to a good charity.
