I tried every single herb, vitamin etc. that anyone had ever recommended. The only thing that stopped most of my symptoms - in particular the hot flushes - was HRT. As long as you have an annual mammogram - which you will have to pay for - all the doctors I have spoken to s agree that the increased risk of breast cancer is negligible.
I have found a great product called magnopulse, it is a small magnetic device you can wear discreetly, i have only been wearing it a short time and although i am only in the early stages of the menopause i have found that my period pains have stopped, and i have less bloating and higher energy levels, it cost £19 but considering the amount i have spent on alternatives it has been money well spent, you can find the product at www.magnopulse.com
My mum is in the first flush of menopause (forgive the pun) and she swears by Estroven which is a one a day food supplement full of isoflavones which work like oestrogen. Get some for yourself from Boots, it's about £15 for a month's supply.
I use Kokoro progesterone cream - it uses a wild yam extract that mimics progesterone. Doesn't eliminate the symptoms, but it reduces them enough that they don't bother me so much. I've recommended it to friends and they've had the same result.
Eat a slice of Menopause Cake every day. Google it for the recipe. It's got all the good things in it that you need to treat your symptoms and all natural. Also great for constipation.
Mood swings and hot flushes are the most obvious and probably the worst synptoms. If you are unsure of your pre-menopausal, peri-menopausal or menopausal state, a blood test can give you the answer. There are many other signs and symptoms and a wee look on the internet might be worth while, just type menopause into the browser and read to your heart's content.
Black Cohosh for hot flushes, Camomile tea for not being able to sleep. Soya foods or suppliments will help over all symptoms. There are a range of menopausal vitamins/minerals so if you talk to your herbalist or chemist they can recommend ones specifically tailored to your symptoms
If you have
1. hot flushes 25 times a day.
2. wake up soaked in sweat and have to have a shower (yes, it happens)
3. painful joints
4. Can't remember anything
5. Dryness all over (face, body and other bits)
6. feel like a little old lady
then the answer is HRT.
If you have the odd flush then take the nice herbal teas.
I know what they say about it HRT, but it works. If you have no contra-indications, like high blood pressure, talk to your doctor about low dose HRT, find out about the facts and don't be put off by the doom preachers.
