A lot of junk mail comes with a freepost envelope for you to reply. I stick the mail in the envelope (minus all personal details) and send it back. That way they have to pay the postage and gain no benefit... A bit mean, granted, but gives a small amount of satisfaction!

How to recycle junk mail

Credit card offers and other junk mail/circulars usually include return envelopes. Instead of throwing these away, re-use them by placing a label over the address or window. Saves money and trees while reducing waste.

I shred them all and add them to my compost bin which will eventually make my plants grow.

The mail goes into the recycling bin and I keep the envelopes that usually come with it for school use - dinner money, trip money, swimming money, letters.

Keep a small yet trendy bin by the front door or in the hall. When the junk mail comes, throw it in that bin and either add it to your regular recycling bag or shred it and use it as packaging.

Contact the mailing preference service by e-mail, they will remove you from the junk mail adress book. This also works for junk calls!
