Make them yourself, that way no-one will ever have the same. When on holiday with my boyfriend I saw a necklace made of buttons that I fell in love with but it was so expensive. So I went to a bead shop and bought loads of different and funky buttons and a meter of leather string, it all came to about £2.50, which was like £30 cheaper than the one I saw and much nicer. When we got back I threaded the buttons on and voila! Now i always get compliments when I wear it and I really enjoy making my own stuff, its really relaxing too!

How to accessorise individually

I work in fashion and have learnt that the key to accessorizing is not to overdo it. Pick one great accessory such as a statement belt or a work of art necklace and focus your outfit on that point. Never wear dangly earings and a necklace and keep rings to a minimum

I read this years ago (can't recall where) and it's guided me well. Everything you put on gets either 1 point (if solid color and simple) or 2 points (if multi-colored or otherwise especially showy). If you go over 10 points in a total outfit -- even counting your shoes -- you're overdressed and should take something off.

When it comes to accessorize, less is more. Don't overload your outfit or you'll end up ruining it. Pick one or two accessories like earings and a belt. Not a ring, necklace,bracelet, earings, hairband,scarf,bag and belt!!

A great tip about accessorizing is to get dressed as normal, and (if you're worried that you've over-accessorized) turn your back to the mirror. Turn around quickly and take off the first thing you see.

You need to strike a balance. Things should harmonize, you don't want people staring at your belt all night or your earrings. Look in the mirror for a few minutes, notice if there is anything that detracts attention from your eyes, smile or your conversation. If so, rethink the outfit.

Learn to knit! I did this a year ago and now have some lovely scarves,gloves,ponchos and shawls that I have chosen the colours, patterns and sizes for and had the satisfaction of making myself. Its also cheaper and more therapeutic than shopping and gives you things that no one else will have. And its not just wool - its also possible to knit bracelets from craft wire and beads. Never wear loud (or big pieces) earrings and loud or chunky necklace together, unless they are of matching set. If you need to wear loud necklace, perhaps wear smaller earrings or something close to the colour of the necklace if its slightly larger. Vice versa for the loud earrings, can't go wrong with a simple chain

When you've got a moment pop into a charity shop (Oxfam etc). Vintage is definitely in and you'll find that once you get used to digging through all of the junk you can find some really cool items. E.g old jewellery, neck scarfs etc. And no one else will have it. This way you're creating your own style whilst donating to charity!!

Vintage always works but its not always cheap. Try to find one piece that you really live, like a cuff or a pin that is very distinctive and wear it often. A cheap way to accessorise is to make you own scarves from the scraps they sell at material stores. A half a yard of beautiful silk or velvet is usually pretty cheap and smaller pieces with great colors and beads are almost a steal. If you can't sew, use fabric glue or double stick tape to secure edges and hide fraying. Scarves make great belts on a monochromatic outfit.

Well I collected loads of those metal tabs you get on the top of coke cans to open them (don't know what they're called) and then I made a necklace and a bracelet to match. Everytime I wear them I get loads of compliments and it didn't cost anything (except for the price of the coke).

I have found finding a bunch of items I like the most give me the most compliments, whether than basing my style off of a trend. Getting lots of beaded and solid bracelets in many colors allows you to accesorize with different outfits!

Primark, Peacocks and New Look all do cheap-ish accessories. Obviously your never going to be the only one who owns them unless you do make them yourself but if you team these accessories up with your own individual style you will look different. Also try browsing the net, ebay and asos.com sometimes sell totally different things.
