If you tavel to work by bus, get off one stop before you usually do, and walk the rest of the way. This can gradually be increased to two stops.
Walk up and down stairs instead of using the lift. You can start by doing up stairs for a week, and then down, and then combine both.

How to exercise for free

Do a through cleaning of your house. It may not seem like a lot of work, but think of all the walking around u do. All the work with your arms u do. Do it for about 30 mins. You'll have a clean house, and be skinny :)

Buy a mini trampoline from Argos. £18.99. It is great fun and I can jump to my hearts content in the garden or in the garage. I do 15 minutes a day and have lots nearly a stone already. Also legs and bum have really firmed up.

Take a pair of trainers to work with you and keep them under your desk. Go for a lunchtime walk 3 times a week, with your ipod and then grab a sandwich on the way back and still have your evenings to spend with family / friends. I usually go for a 40 minute walk. Wrap up warmer in winter and wear a hat.

Get a ball and head to the park with a group of mates. You have fun, exercise and you really don't notice. Take water and fruit to nibble. Bonus - the local rugby team may be training....

Buy a skipping rope - its free and you can do it in the privacy of your own home, plus its a good cardio and strengthens your your arms and legs, i do 2,000 a day but started with 500... best to do it in the morning and make it as part of your routine, that way it doesnt feel like a chore.

Walking is just the easiest and cheapest way of exercising. Either go with a friend, walking group or with your MP3 player for company. Minimum of an hour's brisk walk is really good for you

Walk lots... 30 mins a day, at least 3 days a week, make it a brisk walk and you'll notice more of a difference. Download a free yoga guide from the internet/get a book from the library and start do some yoga maybe once or twice a week. Do situps when watching tv/listening to music. Walk during your lunchtime, even if it's just round your office. Maybe you could clean up an old bike or borrow one and use that. You could always try jogging/running, and skipping if you already have a rope. There is a lot more things that you could do, but I was trying to stick to the "free" part!

Buy a set of ankle weights and do some lifts with them for about 30 minutes three times a week, while you're at your desk. A good exersize is to extend the leg and do circles, clockwise and counterclockwise. Get some dumbells and do the same for your arms.

They say a good 'session' in bed can burn more calories than a half hour jog too!

walking is good, as mentioned, but you can also take it up a notch and add some light jogging. alternate .5 minutes of jogging with 2 minutes of walking 3X a week, the next week do a minute of jogging/2min walking, 3rd week 2 minutes of jogging to 2 minutes walking, etc. do it for 20 minutes total each time. before you know it (*about 8 weeks later) you're running!
