I am 47 & I remember being sent to the naughty step. The whole point of that was that we could still see the fun that was happening elsewhere. All conversation by us was totally ignored. It worked with me & I used it on my own children (now 17, 19, & 20) If you send them to a naughty room you can't keep an eye on any mischief they may get up to out of your sight

If you have given your child (from about the age of 4) three warnings and he is still misbehaving then make him go to the naughty step. But I find a naughty room is better if you can, because on a step he can still see what’s going on and engage with you.

Ask the child what he's done wrong. make sure they understand why they're being punished. Be consistant.
