Keep a skunk tethered next to the bin, soon the rotting food smell will no longer be noticeable.

Spray it with a weak bleach solution.

I tried the skunk, it does not work! !!! Now I have a man that comes round every fortnight to clean our bins. it is a small company and they don't charge a lot (its worth it anyway); you could find out if there is something like that where you live(yellow pages?) Otherwise you just have to do it yourself with good ol' bleach. Not the nicest of jobs!! rubber gloves, face mask, deep breath...

Get a compost bin then you wont need to put hardly (if any at all) food waste in your bin. Much better for the environment and your garden too!
