On the day have this and a pencil on the tables for people to complete when they are seated. Gets everyone talking to everyone to see who knows the answers. You can have a prize for the winning table too!

How to have happy guests

We made place cards out of home-made party crackers (commonly used at the holidays). They the papers we selected looked beautiful, but more importantly as guests began pop them, the toys inside gave them something to do and discuss. It worked, even at our formal wedding. We also served drinks before the ceremony which helped liven things up and made it clear that our wedding was a celebration for everyone to enjoy.

Its your day, do it as you like, don't bother about displeasing your guests, if they don't like it they can lump it :)

We got married one Easter so put Thorntons Easter eggs with the children's names on, at their places, that went down well although the parents were not too sure as the children wanted them before their meal! We also made sure that there was somewhere for the children to run around safely, outside, and somewhere for the grannies to sit quietly. I arranged a couple of surprises through the day (a piper and Scottish dancers in the evening, they were popular and great fun) I agree with a previous posting that it is important to speak to each of your guests at some point during the day/evening but do remember it is YOUR day and this may be the only time you do it - enjoy!!

I invited guests for a couple of drinks at the venue before the ceremony as my partners and my family had never met. At the reception we had a belly dancer (the one in the news with this british diplomat) which got everyone joining in, kiddies dancing and then the men!!! She was FANTASTIC. No-one even realised any mistakes during the evening, cake cutting etc...

Dont get to hung up on what your guests would want its your day. Whatever makes you have the best day of your life should make them happy too.

Keep smiling even if something goes wrong lol! Try to greet everyone at least once,be gracious and thank them for coming - it doesn't matter if you don't have time for a long catchup. Make sure the ushers are entertaining, but respectful of your families, and know what order things are supposed to happen, where everyone is to go etc...(a bit like sheepdogs lol!) Offer a non-alcoholic alternative to wines/champagne. Create a website prior to the day with extra info for guests,like directions, who the bridesmaids are etc...and add photos after the event. Don't be greedy with your gift list; your guests' presence iis far more important than any material presents.

No one feels like champagne as soon as they’ve come out of a long church service, so, if it’s an afternoon wedding, first offer them a cup of tea and a biscuit too.

if you want to keep your guests happy, don't plan a sit down dinner - make it short and sweet and during the day! if it ends at 6ish then they can go out afterwards if they are still up to it. it's too boring having to sit around and endure a long long dinner with endless speeches!
