Try tin foil scrunched up and rub away the rust - I tried it and it really worked!

Yes the tin foil thing works like magic! Just clean it afterwards with a soft cloth and make sure to wear gloves because a black thing will come off chrome and its hard to remove from your hands and it smells like metal.
