Tip of the day

As well as the obvious purse, diary and keys, I carry a nail file, a tiny pair of folding scissors (cheap from a knitting shop), a couple of safety pins, a roll of electrical tape, a sticking plaster and a crochet hook (which helps me with a surprising amount of things). Don't forget a tampon or two (you may really save the day for someone 'caught short') and if there's space, Vaseline solves most beauty emergencies - lips, cuticles, flyaway hair, unruly eyebrows, no time for mascara etc, etc.
