Take follic acid supplements. After two years of constantly flaking nails, I've taken follic acid for three months and have strong healthy nails again at last.
Nails are very flexilbe so you need a flexible nail polish. Use L'oreal laquer resistance or maybelline ultra long lasts. Put on two coats of the polish. The instant the polish starts to flake, take it off and re apply. NEVER allow your polish to flake as it then allows water into the nail bed and dries them out. Because nails bend and flex, your polish never chips, it flakes off, a bit like wall paint. You need to protect the nail bed.
In high school I went on an apple juice kick. My nails were so strong and healthy everyone commented on it. I rub olive oil into them once a week but whenever I want my hands to look good for an event, I add some apple juice to my diet.
-dont wear too much nail polish
-do rub with olive oil evry night(and hands too)
-dont let them grow too long
-do file them often
-do buff them every 2 weeks
-do eat apples and drink loads of water and apple juice
-do trim the cuticles
As previously stated Prostrong from QVC is good but a high street brand that I have found very effective is Sally Hansen nailgrowth miracle as recommended by INStyle best beauty buys
eat jelly! you can eat it raw, without bothering to make it into actual jelly - it's delicious. And you can buy it sugar-free too, if you are worried about your weight. This definitely works. Otherwise you can buy pills from the health food shop or chemist specially for Nails, Hair, Eyes etc.
I had this problem until I started using a buffing block. Get a block with coarse, medium and fine buffing sides. Buff each nail with all three sides. Not only will your nails look like they've just had a coat of clear nail polish, your nails should stop chipping and flaking.
I have found the best treatement for soft nails that keep breaking: dip finger tips in warm olive oil for a few minutes, then massage the oil into onto the nails and hands. this strengthens the nails, leaves them looking great with the extra benefit of fabulous cuticles as well.
Often this is a sign of a Calcium defficiency or Vitamin C or B12, but most likely Calcium. Maybe try to take a daily vitamin or more Calcium and remember you need Vitamin D (or sunlight which naturally creates Vitamin D in your body) to absorb calcium in the body.
Take calcium supplements (weak nails are normally a calcium deficiency). Your nails are often a sign to your inner health. Doctors can often tell of deficiencies by looking at your nails. Check the amount of calcuim and vitamin D (needed to absorb calcium) you get a day. And take a daily vitamin. The above stuff can help, but solving the problem underneath may help solve even more.
Neonatal vitamins -- those taken by women who are pregnant -- will help grow strong nails and hair. Just be sure to explain to your husband/beau so that he doesn't freak out if he see the vitamins!!!
Clip off any dead nails or hang nails and regularly file. you don't need to go to a nail salon to have beautiful hands. simpy getting one of those files that are multisided and after being buffed give you a shiny nail work. after doing that just put a coating or clear nail harder over them and voila!
My nails kept breaking and my friend told me because I wear a lot of nail vanish, this prevented oxygen getting to the nails. Cut back on the nail vanish. It works for me =]
I had the same problem up until a few weeks ago. All u need to do is file your nails. You really need to work at them for the first few days but it pays off! My nails haven't broke since!
Eat jelly cubes. You can even get unsweetened ones, too. both kinds are delicious. Also you can buy, from health food shop or chemist, vitamin pills specially for nails. They seem to work. Also use gentle nail varnish remover only, and look at all the nail strengthening products in the chemist - there are ones to paint on.
