If you have an aloe vera plant to hand snap off one if the leaves and apply directly to the burn, if you do not have this to hand simply adding a small amout of vinager to your bath cures soothes the burning for hours.
If you have a really bad suburn you can use polysporin burn cream. It has an antibiotic, something that helps in healing, something that numbs the pain. In my experience, (I'm pub white and burn too easily) it is the fastest way to heal a bad burn.
Apply a few drops of lavender oil to cotton wool a spread over skin the burning sensation will lesson within half an hour and the burn will stay brown longer
I know this sounds odd, but I have found a great cure for sunburn is Sudocreme (English diaper-rash cream.) Cleanse your face gently and slap on a thick layer overnight. It really works.
My family soak (with shoulders underwater) in a warm bath with a few drops of baby oil in it until the stinging stops about 15 mins pat dry with a soft towel and smother the body in aftersun or similar over and over again before going to bed and stay out of the sun for the next couple of days
I have found that the most effective relief is from Calomine lotion. you can buy it in boots etc. keep it in the fridge and then apply it liberally with cotton wool straight to the skin. Very soothing. It dries on the skin so you'll need to wash it off before you go out. But it's great if you're just about to hit the hay.
This really does work...
pour white vinegar onto a wet cloth and apply to the affected area for a minute, you can actually see the steam coming out of the cloth from the burn! Shower after so that you don't end up smelling like a bag of chips!! The relief is amazing.
Aloe Vera Gel is fantastic, very soothing, and is wonderfully cooling as it dries on your skin.
look out for it in Holland & Barratt where they often have it on half price offer!!
Keep your aftersun in the fridge, and if possible ask a nice gent to apply it, might take your mind off the pain!! Also, don't know if this works or not but I have heard that rubbing a tomato (!!) over it will take the sting away! Have't fancied trying that one myself!
