Throw yourself into doing the place up and putting your own stamp on the place. Keeping busy will help you not to dwell on the fact that you're now on your own. Invite your friends and family over to help and once done hold a small house-warming and fill your place with friends and laughter.
One night a week invite friends over for a girly session - dinner, drinks, face packs etc and you'll soon feel more at home in the place. Also the more times you have people over - the more you'll look forward to just having the place to yourself.
Indulge in all those things that you can only do when on your own - hour long baths, watching trashy tv, weepy movies, eating comfort food ... if you make your place a sanctuary for yourself you'll soon love coming home.

I agree-you have to make the place your own. Forget boring magnolia (unless you like that kind of thing...) go for bright cheery colours that make you smile and make a room feel inviting. Buy some fish...I absolutely love mine, so easy to keep and they always look so pleased to see me when I get home! Put pictures up, rugs, lamps, candles-fill it with you and don't just 'live' in one room-it's all yours, so don't hide away-make the most of it!

Take up a hobby like joining a walking group or learn a new skill and take evening classes. Or if you have to stay home take an online course to learn something new. Or do voluntary work to help people less fortunate than yourself.

Definitely make the place your own. I learned that by hanging up pictures and decorating with things you love you can feel settled and enjoy your new place. Were you ever told the right way to setup the kitchen but always wanted to do it another way? Now is your chance to make it the way you want it. If you are still lonely, spend some time volunteering in the community to meet some new people and feel good about helping out.

what i would do is start wwith one room and pretend thats the only room you have, blocking all the other rooms out. make it as cosy and a comfortable place which is similiar to your room back at home or wheverever you used to live! then slowly do room by room!

Buy yourself fresh flowers everyweek and keep them on the table where you eat. Display items that have a meaning in a place where people will see them right away. Do something different with the furniture. Its your place so break a few decorating rules so that the apartment reflects your personality and interests but lookis inviting enough that you want to come home.
