Having a hysterectomy is a major operation and comes with many side affects. (I know from seeing what it did to my Mother). Why not try taking the pill continuously as this way you will not have a period as such. If you are young they should start regulate after a few years, if this does not happen get a referral to a gynae doctor who specailises in this field.
See your doctor and they should be able to help you. Try the pill, if that doesn't work you can have the implant or go on the injection and both are supposed to stop your periods while your on them. Don't get an hysterectomy (sp) without trying other things first - that really should be your last resort.
A hysterectomy should truly be the last resort in this situation. Speak to your GP. You can take various pill brands for three months at a time, meaning you only have 4 periods per year. There is also the Mirena coil, which has worked for me. They say it's only for those who have had children, but whilst it's uncomfortable to get in, my periods disappeared after about 3 months -I haven't had a period for about 3.5 years.
It's brilliant- you don't have a period, because you don't make the womb lining (which is shed in the period) and your fertility returns to normal after removal.
There are lots of options. If your Gp is not supportive go to your local GUM/Family planning clinic and discuss the options. THere is an option out there for you
You need to find out why. If you have PCOS-like me, then you may find relief with Metformin, but you need to see an endocrinologist. You may be underweight - if your BMI is too low you can have irregular periods.
In short, see your GP, and demand a referral to an endocrinologist. You don't need to be rude, but be persistent, it's your life and your body.
I have tried approx 9 contraceptive pills over the years, including brands that are now banned due to their ingredients - unfortunately I continued to bleed through each and every one of them - twice a month due to PCOS. The Depo-Provera injection worked for me - a 3 monthly injection which shut everything down - no pain/symptoms or periods at all. Should you want a baby at any stage, the injection *may* take about a year to come out of your system.
I had bad pcos then endemetriosis, periods and pmt and constant tiredness ruled my life. I reduced my stress level and I started the Cerazette contraception pill and I now have minimal bleeding, the best thing I ever did. Worth a try?
