If you are competitive like me this may help. I get bored running so I do what they call phartlecking? I think that is how it is spelt. This is running to something constant. I jog to one lamp, sprint to the next, walk to the next and so on. It buids stamina and raises the heart rate soon you find you dont walk as many. It works for me, Good Luck x
Simple things will make a huge difference over time, such as not trying to get the closest parking spot at the mall. Park far away and get some walking in. If you're late for work, there's your jogging opportunity!
Here's a better answer: find another way to exercise that you DON'T hate. Running is hard on the knees, anyway.
Alternatives to running you should think about:
kickboxing
ice skating or rollerblading
any kind of dance class--ballroom, jazz, african, ballet, etc etc
swimming
martial arts
hiking
rock climbing
pilates
biking
There are a million and one ways to keep in shape. You just have to find the one you love doing--that way it isn't a chore to dread, and you might actually stick to your routine instead of avoiding it.
If you think you don’t have time to exercise regularly at the gym, make a commitment to walk everywhere. It’s free and you can fit it in throughout the day. We are all supposed to walk at least 10,000 steps a day and most manage just a fraction of that. Buy a pedometer from Boots.
Always run with an ipod or walkman - music helps to avoid thinking about what you're actually doing. Use a marker like a lamp post to aim for, then just try one more and then the next one and the next one.....
Those things called endorphins are realy good - the first few times at the gym or running or say swimming its a challenge but wen u get into a good swing they flow and make u happy and from then on in you get hooked to the feeling ... so hang in there - try eat healthy and enough and exercise every 48 hrs
You can do anything if you have strong enough motivation--the more specific the better. A trip you want to take or a guy you want to date will usually do the trick. When you start to feel anxious about working out, focus on why you're doing it and you'll be off in no time.
I am the laziest person youll ever meet.... but what i do is starjumps during the adverts on TV!! I alternate betwen starjumps and running on the spot punching the air!! And why not get the music channels on and shake it!! Who cares whos watching!! Get your beyonce butt out!!! The best (and funniest) times is when they do cheesiest songs of the 90s....Tragedy anyone? xxx
it sounds obvious but make the time-perhaps you feel that you come back from work too tired but think about it-you may be mentally exhausted but not physically, tell yourself this and go for tht exercise! If it's because you cant fit it around a social life, get your friends involved-you'll all feel the benefits of getting fitter and often its jst the motivation you need. good luck xx
I hate running, but I have gotten myself into a routine of exercising at least 3 times a week. instead of running, I used to use the eliptical trainer, which I love. but sometimes there are days I'm feeling particularly pumped or even frustrated and running really gets the blood pumping. I find I am much better on a treadmill because it forces you to keep the pace, and also is less harsh on your joints. make sure you put energy-boosting and dance-party tunes on your ipod and when you're running just imagine you're dancing at a club! works for me, because I know I've definitely worked up quite a sweat dancing and never complain about that!
Do a strech when every you get up off of the couch.
Pretend you are a cat. When you are sitting at your desk hold in your stomach and count backwards from 100. Grab the bottom of your chair and lift you bent legs - knees aimed toward chest 8 times whenever you can.
Buy some ankle weights and do some knee extender exercizes while sitting at your desk at work. Clench and unclench your buttocks while sitting in a meeting or watching a presentation; do the same with your abs (and if the meeting is boring, it will help you stay awake!) Get some dumbells and do bicep curls, shoulder lifts and such while on the phone. During lunch, take a 30 minute walk. Raining? Go to a local store or indoor shopping centre/mall and walk there.
I'm doing my leg rotations with my ankle weights on right now...
Other ways I sneak in exercise are:
- I clench my stomach and abs while in the shower. Two hundred hard clenches, three times a week.
- While waiting at a red light, I clench my butt cheeks. If there's a snappy song playing, I "clench to the music." :)
I do my pelvic tilts while filling the car with petrol. I clinch my buttocks while watching TV. I do arm exercises when cooking. You can fit it in any time.
Housework is always a great calorie burner. Sounds silly, but just do it a liiiiittle bit more vigorously. Knowing that your killing 2 birds with one stone helps too!
I've always had a problem with getting motivation but now me & one of the girls I work with are both having a weekly weigh in, whoever looses the least weight by the time of our Xmas party has to buy the other one a bottle of wine at the party, it is actually helpting me get motivation, I don't know if its the competition or the fact that its gonna be an expensive place to buy a bottle of wine lol!!
Buy the Idiot Proof Diet by India Knight and Neris Thomas. It is based on their journey losing 5 stone each over a year. It is utterly incredible - it really deals with the issues surrounding being fat, losing weight etc, but in a very straightforward and very amusing way.
I have never managed to lose any weight before. Was 15st 5lbs when I started in early October. I am now 12st 7lbs - so just under 3 stone lost. I never feel deprived. I am so motivated. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Oh and there is a website too - www.pig2twig.co.uk with lots of support and motivation from other people on the same journey. Good luck!
