Do you work ?Ask them round for a meal or drinks.Or organise a night out , offer to babysit , ask if anyone wants to see a movie, don't sit in, go to the local community centre ask if you can offer your services. Change your mindset , tell yourself you are an independent interesting person who happens to live alone.I have had 2 awful marriages and when I feel a bit lonely I treat myself to something and count my blessings I can live how I want to

Go and visit an old folks home. There are so many who see family at Christmas and Easter and the rest of the year nobody. If they are deaf it's even worse as even in the home they feel isolated.

I have previously been in this situation. I socialised with work colleagues. I also joined a health club where I met people, and didn't feel uncomfortable about going to alone. I made use of any contacts- friends of friends who were willing to link up with me. It is hard if you are a single woman, but with an open mind; a willingness to explore all opportunities that arise,it is possible to combat lonliness. And now that I am (happily) married- there are still times when I crave time alone!

As a recent widow I am now volunteering with several charitable organizations. It is a great way to meet new people and these organizations are always looking for volunteers.
