First, use a clean gum eraser to "erase" scuffs and other light marks then, wash with saddle soap then, using a clean, damp soft cloth, rinse surfaces of the soap and set the shoes to air-dry..when dry, simply brush the surface in one direction to restore the finish look.

i recently heard that this also works. taking the soft bit from the centre of a bread roll and and squashing it. then lightly rubbing it over any stains to lift them.

Rub very gently with a pumice stone until the marks have gone. Then brush gently. Obviously you can't do this too often.
