Always always go to the loo after sex, no matter how annoying or embarrassing - I suffered for years and was always prescribed antibiotics when there was no infection present. It was like someone had waved a magic wand!!!!!

As soon as you feel the 'tingling' at the start of an attack, drink a teaspoon of bicaronate of soda dissolved in a glass of water - it works to reduce the acidity of your urine in a similar way to the drink sachets you can buy- but much cheaper!

Take the candida test - google 'candida test' - one of the many symptoms of candidas is cystitis. In the meantime (untill you confirm that candida is not your problem) I would avoid all sugar (even fruit) and take a good quality probiotic avalible from health food stores (much better that just eating live yougurt of drinking probiotic drinks from the supermarket).

The best way to avoid cystitis altogether is to shower within 12 minutes of intercourse (the amount of time it takes for any bacteria which may be travelling up the urinary tract to double). You should also go to the toilet to flush out any bacteria which may have reached the urinary tract. This advice has meant a cystitis free life for 8 years now!
