Tip of the day

How to minimise the discomfort of a smear, when you are terrified of having one?
Deep breaths! Think of something else!! So easy to say but very difficult to do. Please don't be too terrified, to the nurse you are just another patient, another reference number, a body part which needs attending too, like any other, etc. For a few minutes discomfort its worth the 3 - 5 years reassurance you get from the results. Explain to the nurse that you are very nervous and she should make allowances. No need to be terrified, its embarrassing yes, but over in a very short time.
