How to decide how much allowance to give children
Starting at age 5 we gave our children money equal to twice their age every month. We made them responsible for their "wants" and we took care of their "needs". When they turned 16 we increased their allowance but made them responsible for more of their "needs" in the hope that this would help them gradually prepare to be independent.
